Hi! My name is Katherine (Kate) Karlen, and I am originally from Minneapolis, MN. I bring in over 6 years of nanny experience, with a particular focus on school-aged children. I've always been inspired by their humor, curiosity, and resilience!
While attending the University of Iowa, I spent my summers back in Minnesota as a nanny for three wonderful families, caring for children ranging from 15 months to 12 years. After graduating, I became a full-time career nanny for a bright, non-verbal 6-year-old boy and his wonderful 8-year-old sister. In that role, I collaborated closely with his therapy team to reinforce communication and daily living skills.
I was recognized for my reliability and dedication with a merit-based raise within three months. I remained with that family for 16 months, leaving only due to a cross-country move to California. My approach as a caregiver combines structure, creativity, and empathy. I prioritize interactive, screen-free activities that foster learning and imagination.
Above all, I strive to create a safe and engaging environment where kids feel supported to do their best, work through big emotions, grow, and be their authentic selves. What an honor it is to call this my job!
