MEET NANNY: SOPHIA

Full-Time - Peninsula and San Francisco

My name is Sophia, and caring for children has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a home where nourishment and care were everything — my mother was a labor and delivery nurse for twenty years and a chef, so the act of showing up fully for others is something I was raised to take seriously. That foundation is what drew me to nannying, and it’s what has kept me here. I am 26 years old, originally from Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, and I am relocating to the Bay Area in June with a deep excitement for this next chapter. I began babysitting and nannying at 14 years old, and that early experience only deepened my love for working with children and families.

Over the past five-plus years, I have worked with families across the East Coast, including in Manhattan, Nantucket, the Hamptons, Rhode Island, and the Bahamas, as a travel nanny, rotational nanny, and primary caregiver for children ranging from 8 months to 11 years old. I have managed multiple children simultaneously, supported household operations, and shown up for families in high-demand environments where trust, discretion, and reliability were non-negotiable. I am a firm believer in a non-technological, creativity-inspired approach to childhood. Rather than defaulting to screens, I prioritize imaginative play, hands-on exploration, and time in nature as the foundation of how children learn and grow.

Outside of childcare, I am a 200-hour certified yoga instructor, a former lifeguard and swim coach of five summers, a home cook with a deep love of Mediterranean food, and someone who believes wholeheartedly in celebrating childlike wonder. I am the kind of caregiver who would rather go catch fireflies than stay inside, who gets in the mud, runs through the leaves, and believes that imagination and nature are two of the greatest gifts we can give a child. I bring warmth, intention, and a genuine love for this work into everything I do. I cannot wait to find the family I am meant to serve next.

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY

I believe... that childhood is sacred, and that the adults who show up for children during those early years have the profound responsibility of shaping how they see themselves and the world around them.

I believe... that the greatest gift you can give a child is your full, undivided presence — not a screen, not a shortcut, but genuine connection, curiosity, and play.

I believe... that caregiving is a calling, not just a job. When you love what you do, children feel it. And when children feel safe and seen, they flourish.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?

I did not choose this industry — it chose me. I come from a family where caregiving was a way of life. My mother spent twenty years as a labor and delivery nurse and raised us with the kind of love that made home feel like the safest place on earth. I started caring for children at 14 and never stopped, because I genuinely cannot imagine a more meaningful way to spend my time. What keeps me here, beyond the love, is the profound belief that children are arguably the wisest teachers we will ever have. They see the world with a clarity and openness that most adults have long forgotten. Every single day in their presence is an invitation to slow down, look closer, and remember what actually matters. To foster their imagination, creativity, and love of learning is not just something I do — it is something I aspire to with every role I take on.

Being a nanny means being trusted with someone’s most precious person. It means showing up every single day with intention, creativity, and love. To me, this industry is not a placeholder or a stepping stone. It is a vocation, and I take that seriously in everything I do.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:

I am warm, deeply attentive, and endlessly patient. I lead with my heart, but I am also highly organized, proactive, and reliable — someone families can trust completely. I show up early, stay calm under pressure, and never wait to be asked twice. My background spanning studio operations, household management, and years of private childcare has made me someone who can hold a lot at once without losing the personal touch that makes this work meaningful. I value honesty, clear communication, and mutual respect in every professional relationship I enter.
