GENUINE NANNY: KATA P.

Full-time - East Bay

MEET OUR WARM, THOUGHTFUL, AND ADVENTUROUS GENUINE NANNY KATA P.!

I'm Kata! I've lived in the bay area for 10 years but grew up in southern California. I love spending time with my community, studying plants, and dancing. I consider myself to be a kind and warm caregiver and have big love and respect for families and children. I have about 10 years of child care experience.

My career has ranged from camp counselor, nature educator, postpartum doula, nanny, pod teacher, and family assistant. I've learned a lot of wonderful skills and deeply enjoy nurturing the family team.

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY

I believe... There is a key to being well in this world when families are supported!

I believe... That encouraging self expression, autonomy, interdependence, emotions, and confidence with courage and love can create generations of thoughtful and creative people.

I believe... That nature has the capacity to hold us in all of our emotions and transform them into something anew.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:

I would describe my work ethic as organized, reliable, and caring. My strengths are my capacity to be nurturing and loving while maintaining my boundaries clear and being honest. I would say my personality is multi-faceted, I have the capacity to wear many different hats that are appropriate for the situation. I enjoy having open pathways of communication, receiving and giving feedback, and being a part of group ideas. People in my life would describe me as sweet, thoughtful, and playful!

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?

I think a key aspect of nanny success is to be willing to be a part of the family/ parenting team. If i'm spending a lot of time in the family circle then it's really important to me that we all support each other in the raising and understanding of your child. I'm deeply committed to the safety of your child and also having a lot of fun together! It's important to me to listen to children and their boundaries and thoughts and what they want to do together too! I want them to feel like their thoughts and ideas are valued! I will communicate to them with kindness and also feel very comfortable communicating with them honestly and expressing my thoughts and boundaries too.

WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EMPLOYERS? ANY EXAMPLES TO SHARE?

I often have worked with families who I give some sort of update about how the day went on a daily basis. I would say i'm very communicative and hope for the families I work for to also be open to communicate openly with me.

WHAT TYPE OF NANNY ROLE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WOULD BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN

I'm looking for a family to work with part time. (Minimum of 10 hours and Max of 20 hours weekly) I'm interested in being able to have a blend of home time and outside play time. I find that creates a fun and balanced day for the kiddos and I. I don't mind working with parents who work from home or work out of the home.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU HAVE TAKEN INITIATIVE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

I'm the type of person that observes any changes in kiddo in order to inform the care team (without kiddo feeling watched). I'm also quite organized so tidying up the crafts we do or play space or meal time come naturally to me. I'm very approachable and love to be clear and open with my communication.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY AND CHILD-REARING VALUES?

I think it's important to hear out and listen to child's cues and it's also important to me to be clear about my boundaries (with games, yelling, hitting, and personal info, etc) I balance kindness , play, and firm boundaries pretty well and I'm always learning more. I am happy to say yes to plenty of ideas and activities but I will also say No when necessary. I don't do time-outs, my approach is to have a conversation to gain more understanding and come to a solution together and if that doesn't seem to be working for whatever reason I do something called "Communication Space". I frame this as something mutually beneficial, where we can take a few breaths, not try to fix anything yet, feel whatever we feel and take a few minutes before we try again. Ultimately, I think it's important for kids and I to learn each other and connect in order to understand and create what our dynamic can be together. Each and every connection is different and special.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

I feel pretty lucky with the families i've collaborated with so I haven't had many challenges. The biggest I can think of is when we are not on the same page with discipline or when parents really want me to make their child eat at specific times (it often doesn’t work) and if the lines of communication aren't open or consistent that can impact the working relationship.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES & INTERESTS?

I enjoy reading, making crafts, being outside, hiking, going to live shows, and spending time with my loved ones.

WHAT MAKES YOU SPARKLE?

Rivers, Oceans, Dancing, Biking, Connection and all things Nature adventure really bring me alive!
