GENUINE NANNY: TIA H.

Part-time - San Francisco Bay Area

MEET OUR COMPASSIONATE, RESILLIENT, & FLEXIBLE GENUINE NANNY TIA H.!

My name is Tia and I am 26 years old! Last year, I graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, and throughout my collegiate career, I worked predominantly in childcare, whether it be summer camps or nannying!

I'm originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to California in 2016. Since living here, I've discovered a newfound love for the outdoors. Some of my favorite activities include hiking, backpacking and camping. Some of my favorite campsites are in Tahoe National Forest! I also enjoy live music, traveling, roller skating, spending time with friends and family, and seeking opportunities for personal growth and expansion.

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY

I believe... In the power of connections

I believe... Everyone has a purpose

I believe... Taking time for gratitude can shape your outlook on anything.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:

I would describe my personality as very outgoing and extroverted. I love meeting new people and making connections, trying new things, encouraging others to be themselves, supporting friends and family during emotional times and seeking joy and time for "play" whenever possible. Some of my strengths would include strong social and interpersonal skills, open-minded, compassionate, communicative and solution oriented. In regard to my work ethic, I am very reliable and trusted to uphold my commitments. I value the importance of having mutual trust and appreciation in most aspects of my life, whether it be personal or work-related.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?

I love being a nanny because it's always felt like something that comes naturally to me. There's always a learning curve because every family and child are different, but I've always found a way to adapt, learn new skills and navigate every situation I've been in. I don't underestimate the great responsibility that comes with being a nanny, and it's definitely more fulfilling than many other jobs I've had. I appreciate supporting families and knowing I'm making a difference and bringing more ease into their lives. And I really love watching kiddos grow and develop into different versions of themselves.

WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EMPLOYERS? ANY EXAMPLES TO SHARE?

My communication style is calm, direct, respectful and solution oriented! I think healthy conflict is apart of life and shouldn’t be avoided. I’m very open to discussions and overall love communicating with people in every aspect of my life— work, personal relationships, family etc.

WHAT TYPE OF NANNY ROLE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WOULD BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN

The type of nanny position i’m looking for is one that offer flexibility and offers hours in the evening as I work full-time currently. Would be most successful in an environment that is calm, clean, kind, communicative and safe overall.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU HAVE TAKEN INITIATIVE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

I enjoy taking initiative in planning experiences and activities for the children. I ran a messy art summer program for the preschool where I was employed, where I created different sensory experiences and process focused art activities for the children who ranged from one to five years old.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY AND CHILD-REARING VALUES?

My discipline philosophy is teaching with kindness, listening to and verbalizing needs. I do not believe in disciplining children physically at all, as this proves to be totally ineffective. Children deserve mutual respect and to be heard. How to navigate this depends on their behavior, but I always approach it with calmness and kindness in mind. If there’s ever anything I can’t navigate on my own with a child, that’s when I’ll ask the parents for assistance directly.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

Truthfully, I’ve never found any challenges within this type of work, which is why I love it! Sometimes, depending on what I have going on personally, it could be difficult to have enough emotional/mental energy that children require. But that would happen rarely, and it’s something parents deal with all the time.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES & INTERESTS?

My personal hobbies and interests include going to music festivals, concerts, roller skating, camping and hiking and just spending quality time with the people I love!

WHAT MAKES YOU SPARKLE?

UGH. I love this prompt! I honestly thrive and sparkle when given the opportunity to connect with people and make others happy & smile. It sounds cheesy, but genuine human connection is so emotionally thrilling to me.
