GENUINE NANNY: GEMMA M.

Full-time - San Francisco

MEET OUR CURIOUS, HARDWORKING AND KINDHEARTED
GENUINE NANNY GEMMA M.!

I was born in Chicago and lived in Illinois until I graduated from high school in 1999. I moved to Bloomington, Indiana for college and met my husband there. We moved to Japan as a young family and taught English in a small community for two years, afterwards we moved to Portland, Oregon. While living in the Pacific Northwest, we expanded our family and I began teaching at an in-home, Waldorf-inspired preschool. In 2016, our family had the opportunity to move to Berlin, Germany and we lived there for two years. After that wonderful experience, we moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana to be close to our extended family and in 2024, we moved to the Richmond neighborhood in San Francisco.

WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EMPLOYERS? ANY EXAMPLES TO SHARE?

I find clear communication to be the foundation of a good working relationship. It is important to outline expectations and boundaries at the beginning of every working relationship.

WHAT TYPE OF NANNY ROLE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WOULD BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN

I am looking for a part-time position in San Francisco. When I am not working with children, I have worked as a cook in restaurants and I would enjoy incorporating cooking projects as well.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU HAVE TAKEN INITIATIVE IN YOUR PAST NANNY POSITIONS.

I have been an advocate for children's needs in all of my past teaching positions and take the time to listen and amplify the voices of the children in my care.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY AND CHILD-REARING VALUES?

I believe in gentle discipline techniques. Children react well to the establishment of positive boundaries and expectations and when in a state of emotional imbalance, I employ empathic listening and problem solving to find equilibrium again.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

In educational settings, children often arrived to school with needs that were unmet at home. When a child was overtired or hungry, it was difficult getting them to be a positive state for learning. I think it is very important to send children into the world with a positive attitude and a full belly and the knowledge that they are loved unconditionally.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES & INTERESTS?

I enjoy being out in nature and going on adventures with my family. I am a poet and an artist and I enjoy fiber crafts.

WHAT MAKES YOU SPARKLE?

I smile a lot, I think that is my best quality and I like to share it with the world around me.
