WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EMPLOYERS? ANY EXAMPLES TO SHARE?

Communicating with the family regularly will ensure that I have a strong employer-employee relationship that puts the children at the center. Speaking and listening builds trust and lets the family know that I’m paying attention to the details. Being honest and transparent about challenges that arise is important, that way, things don’t build up over time.

WHAT TYPE OF NANNY ROLE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WOULD BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN

I am looking to be a full-time nanny. I have worked with families where I have helped them with their new borns and have been babysitting for them until they are ready to head to middle school. Preferably, I would like to work with newborns and toddlers. I understand the challenges of taking care of newborns as well as the skills to help parents navigate the newborn stage. I would also like to work with toddlers because this is the stage where they are learning to walk, crawl, and learning new words. I believe I have the tools to help parents with toddlers as they are learning new things.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU HAVE TAKEN INITIATIVE IN YOUR PAST NANNY POSITIONS

In my past nanny positions, I have taken initiative by being available and helping with things that go beyond a nanny position. For example, when kids are asleep I help by doing light housekeeping or doing the kids laundry. If a kid has a play-date and parents cannot take them I will offer to take them. Additionally, with parents permission, I will speak to kids in Spanish so they can start learning a second language.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY AND CHILD-REARING VALUES?

I believe discipline and child rearing values is something that is reserved for parents. Parents decide the discipline for their kids and the values they want to instill in their kids. However, I believe all children should be treated with love, respect, compassion and patience. Nannies play an important role in the lives of kids, specially toddler and younger kids, as such they need someone who genuinely cares about their well-being and ensures their safety.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

One of the biggest challenges as a nanny was managing a child's behavior such as a child being hyperactive. However, through open communication with parents, creating routines to help the child focus their energy on other things, and using positive reinforcement techniques I was able to address the behavior. Another issue, is children not listening when they have a new nanny. I overcome this obstacle by taking interest in the things that are important to them and reinforcing that I am there to make sure they are safe. I will use a positive reinforcement technique like creating an activity a child likes such as taking them to the park, reading books, or helping them color.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES & INTERESTS?

Some of my hobbies include hiking/going for a walk, explore new parks/nature, reading/listening to music, doing puzzles

WHAT MAKES YOU SPARKLE?

What makes me sparkle is the many years of experience I have working with kids and my genuine interest in taking care of them. I am very responsible and adaptive to situations that may arise. It is important to me both parents and kids know they can trust me and depend on me.
