GENUINE NANNY:PAULINA M.

Full-time - San Francisco, Marin

MEET OUR MOTIVATED, ORGANIZED, AND A QUICK LEARNER
GENUINE NANNY PAULINA!

I consider myself a well-rounded, driven person. I grew up with strong values, such as respect, honesty, and empathy, that I apply to my daily life.

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY

I believe... A person who is motivated and driven can get farther and closer to achieving their goals than anyone.

I believe... Having an organized routine makes a big difference in a lot of aspects, a small change can help create a more calm environment.

I believe... We should always be in a constant state of learning, in different areas and aspects of life. I want to improve, grow, and add strengths to my personal life. I have learned multiple skills from the people that surround me.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:

I am an ambitious, hard-working, sociable, and caring person. I adapt to every family’s lifestyle and routines. I take pride in being a great team player and I’m always ready for the next activity/task of the day. My organization skills, time management, and good decision-making are definitely my biggest strengths.

I like to be respectful and professional at work and both trust and integrity are very important to me.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?

I have 10 years of experience as a nanny, and I can easily say it’s such a beautiful feeling seeing the (kids) grow, learn, and explore their talents, capabilities weaknesses, and strengths. Each stage is different and unique, but in all of these stages they will learn a lot from the person who is constantly around them; I like to make sure I’m being a role model for them in that sense. I want to help and guide them on their best path so they can achieve their goals.

This career has taught me a lot as well. I thought I would be the one doing all the teaching, but in actuality, I have learned so much through the way children see the world. Being around kids makes me realize the beauty of all the little things that surround us; they make me stop and see the world from a different perspective. Their creativity, imagination and their willingness to learn are impressive. I believe it’s really important to support them, love them, and create a safe environment for them.

WHAT IS YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR EMPLOYERS? ANY EXAMPLES TO SHARE?

Having transparent communication with employers is crucial. Even though in some cases it can be difficult to bring something up, I have learned that it’s more effective to talk about it. That will essentially create a better understanding of the situation. Postponing or avoiding any topic will just create more confusion and misunderstanding. That being said, it’s also important to know when it’s the right time to talk.

WHAT TYPE OF FAMILY ASSISTANT ROLE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WOULD BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN

My ideal position will be falling into the assistant category, with some child care, or starting as a nanny but eventually evolving into a family assistant/household manager.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU HAVE TAKEN INITIATIVE IN YOUR PAST NANNY POSITIONS.

As a person who is familiar with working in busy households, I have learned that there’s always going to be something to do. I had my responsibilities as a nanny, but I constantly took initiative on other projects around the house as well. One example is while I was working with younger kids, during nap time I would prepare for their upcoming class, organize their toys, or look for different activities to do with them. My initiative started increasing in different areas of the house and I eventually became an assistant for the family as well.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY AND CHILD-REARING VALUES?

In my personal experience, I have learned that gentle and positive discipline is more effective and brings better, longer lasting results in children’s behavior.

I like to encourage them to act and behave well. It’s really important to make sure they know we are proud when they are taking good actions and to show them we are grateful for them helping out. This positive reinforcement will create a habit and they will start adding it to their routine.

When they make mistakes and are misbehaving, I first want to understand what was the reason for that action; then I want to listen to them and show empathy. Putting myself in their shoes, will build a bond of trust. I often like to ask them what they feel a solution would be and then work together to create that solution.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A NANNY OR WHILE WORKING WITH A FAMILY?

I think the challenge is the first month, where it is a new environment, new routine, and new ideas. It can be tough starting as a stranger for the kids and family, but they also know it’s part of the process. It’s just a matter of learning their schedules, routines, and adapting to their environment.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES & INTERESTS?

I enjoy traveling, concerts and performances, being active, art galleries, and spending quality time with friends and family.

WHAT MAKES YOU SPARKLE?

I think being lively, present, and keeping a happy and positive attitude makes me sparkle. I believe that you can transfer your energy to the people around you, so I always have a good attitude toward situations and keep calm when things are not going according to plan. I feel it makes a big difference.
