What Nannies are Saying about COVID-19

With so much stress in the world right now,
we wanted to share something positive!

It’s no secret we love getting to highlight our Genuine Nannies so we asked some of them to share their experience and advice for navigating the current state of the world.

Genuine Nanny
Sara Layhe

SARA’S WISDOM:

Many of us are learning how to navigate our shared spaces without much personal time or space.  We can’t be at the office and the kids can’t be at school.  We’re making the best of it.

Make or have your children make signs with two sides.  Each side of the sign with different messages.  In your own words, for example: “I love you and I need some time alone” and on the other side “I love you - come on in!”

This gives everyone permission to take space in shared space and communicate needs in a fun, interactive and sweet way.  Design your own culture around it.  It might help having a system in place so there's less guessing if someone is on a work call - and ideally less disruption.

SARA SHARES HER EXPERIENCE

During this time, we are faced with the grueling task of rearranging and reprioritizing so many aspects of our life.  Since it happened almost all at once, what I have found to be a practical approach to a somewhat overwhelming circumstance - is to conquer it…  one... piece... at... a... time.

I keep in mind that many things are subject to change during this time and may need reprioritizing.  I start with taking stock of all the things that need my attention and consideration and I address them in manageable bite sizes.

I lean into the silver lining and keep rooted in gratitude and acceptance.  We have all ventured into varying degrees of the unknown.  I remember to be kind to myself and others and wake up each day in search of fortified inner peace and renewed strength.  I miss most of all the sweet and simple human connections in a day and the opportunity for laughter and the chance to open the door for another.  I will cherish them in a new way going forward.

Most beaches are closed for now, but I find comfort in remembering the sound of waves (or playing them at home), getting outside to feel the breeze and watching for butterflies.  For me, my intension is to submit gracefully to another day during this unsettling time and do my best… for myself, for those I love and my community.

I try to see the positive side of everything in life so under these days I’m doing it more than ever. I think that being positive that this will end and focus on that, it’s best to do right now and try new things will help all of us get thru this.

Genuine Nanny
Tatiana

TATIANA’S WISDOM:

In times like these, it’s important to support and lift each other up so we can get through this together.

And by doing this we can remind ourselves that we may be physically apart, but we’re never alone.

TATIANA SHARES HER EXPERIENCE

The experience of living through a pandemic, having to shelter in place by myself and living through so many conflicting emotions hasn't been easy, but reaching out to other people helped soothe the uncertainty.

I’ve been keeping myself busy by doing video calls with my former kids and their parents, my friends and family in order to offer emotional support and words of encouragement.
